Us Masters 2013Billy Horschel nearly provided us with a 50-1 winning tip last weekend but eventually had to settle for third place in the Texas Open. The return to form of Rory McIlroy with a fine second place finish in the same event has helped to ramp up the excitement ahead of this week’s US Masters. Bookmakers have cut his odds to 9-1 to win at Augusta this week with Tiger Woods pushed out to 9-2 favourite.

Last week we recommended investing in Phil Mickelson (12-1) and Louis Oosthuizen (30-1) for the Masters and I’m hopeful of a good showing from both players. After studying the odds, there are a couple of other top players that could also be worth including. Brandt Snedeker started the season in tremendous form and is currently rated fifth in the World. In 2008, Snedeker finished tied for third here after shooting a final round 77. The pressure proved too much that day but he is far better equipped to deal with it this year.

Sitting just above Snedeker in the world rankings in fourth place is former number one Luke Donald. The Englishman has finished third in 2005 and fourth in 2011 but has not really shown his best form in majors. He has vowed to concentrate on the big events this season and I think both players are overpriced at 40-1. With bookmakers offering ¼ odds on the first five, odds of 10-1 about either player reaching a place is too tempting to ignore.
