the-players-championship_The Players Championship 2013 Preview

The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass features as strong a field as you will find anywhere in the world outside of a major golf championship. With the US Masters still fresh in the memory, plenty of people are expecting Australian Adam Scott to make a bold attempt to add to his 2004 victory in this event. He certainly handled the pressure superbly at Augusta and will have gained in confidence from recording his first major success. At odds of around 20-1 he is certainly worth including on any short list.

Tiger Woods is automatic favourite for this event, even though he has not been successful here since 2001. At odds of 8-1 we can probably afford to bet against him. Two other previous winners are Phil Mickelson and Sergio Garcia and both have been in good form of late. Mickelson should probably have won last week but allowed a couple of shots to slip away from him in the closing stages. He is far too experienced to let that worry him this week and at 28-1 he looks overpriced.

Garcia won this tournament back in 2008 and continues to frustrate in majors. He was on the fringe of things again last week and is showing some of the most consistent form of his career. The Spaniard is threatening to get involved and 30-1 represents excellent each-way value. Our final selection is Steve Stricker at odds of around 50-1. He finished 12th last year and he has cut down his schedule this season in an effort to concentrate on the biggest events. That policy has already paid off for Adam Scott and a big win could be just around the corner for Stricker.
