Francesco Molinari

Scottish Open Preview 2013

A warm up for the British Open this week as the European PGA focuses on the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open. There’s a pretty strong field have a crack at this one as well and leading the way in Inverness this week is Ernie Els. He will be defending his Scottish Open title this week at Castle Stuart and after winning here last year, he of course went on to win the British Open. With his two Major wins at Muirfield, he seems to thrive in the home of golf and is actually teeing off this week looking for the third Scottish Open title of his career.

So the South African should be a strong option and is well worth covering in the Place Market at odds of 4/1. Els also won at the back end of last month, taking the BMW International Open, so can’t argue with him being at the top of the pecking order this week.

There is great value around in the valuable Top Ten market for your golf betting this week, with strong options in Henrik Stenson and Phil Mickelson. Stenson is just a solid player and took a share of tenth in his last outing at the BMW International. The Swede also management to take a top ten finish at last year’s Scottish Open as well. So he should be around the right mark for a Top Ten finish, along with Mickelson.

Big Phil has been enjoying a great season, with five top tens this season, including a win, two seconds and two thirds. Missed the cut at the Greenbrier last week on the PGA, so will be looking to punch back. Was one of the favourites last year for the Scottish Open and landed a 16th place finish. The American’s best finish was a second place in 2007.

One of the top calls this week should be for Italian Francesco Molinari. He has taken three top ten finishes in his last four starts at the Scottish Open. He finished up runners lats year as well after a play off. Pile on some pretty consistent form this season, and coming off the back a T18 at the Alstom Open de France, a very good fit for this week.

Stat: Molinari has three top ten finishes in his last four Scottish Open starts
