Open de Espana (Spanish Open)Open de Espana (Spanish Open) Preview

The Open de Espana has the difficult task of following straight on from the US Masters. Still, it is a prestigious tournament in its own right, hosted in Valencia, Spain. As usual, homegrown talents make a great place to start in looking for your golf betting options on the European Tour this week. Topping that pile will be Sergio Garcia, who holds the title of being the youngest ever win of the event, taking the win back in 2002 at the age of 22. He made a solid showing in the first round of the Masters before falling away for a T8 finish. The Spaniard is top of the Race to Dubai rankings and therefore has rightly been installed as favourite at a price of 6/1 with Ladbrokes. Garcia’s pretty solid on home soil and worth taking a look at as outright winner.

It will be worth looking at some top ten finish options this week and would generally stick with Spaniards to fill the hole. Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano is worth a look as he has been pretty consistent this season, including taking a share of 20th at the Masters. Outside of that he has four top twenty finishes in five European Tour events this season, and also makes value in backing outright. Spaniards Pablo Larrazabal, Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Miguel Angel Jimenez will all probably make strong challenges.

But just trending upwards at the moment is England’s David Horsey, who is in the field. He has two top ten finishes in last two outings on the European Tour and with a T5 at the 2011 Open de Espana, he has posted two top ten finishes in four attempts. It makes Horsey a great option for a top ten finish for value of 2/1 at Ladbrokes.
