Open Alstom de France Preview 2013

A powerful set of main contenders are out this week, for the 42nd edition of the Alstom Open de France at Le Golf National. Leading the way this week is England’s Luke Donald who will be making just his second appearance at the tournament. The former World number One hasn’t been up to the levels where he would like to be this season, but with a top fifteen finish at the Alstom Open in 2010, and an 8th at the recent US Open, he should be in the frame. Donald really hasn’t been solid or outstanding in any particular area of the statistics this season, but he has solid driving accuracy. He can still pull out the magic with the short game enough to at least secure a top ten finish this week.

One of the trending players in the field this week who is worth considering as an option is Italy’s Matteo Manassero. The youngster is in a ripe bit of form at the moment, and he has been delivering returns on all hole types. He has been putting very sharply and just his overall scoring should see him riding high this week. Hasn’t got great driving distance but he more than makes up for it with his work around the greens. Has a best finish of 17th at the tournament from three previous events.

There are some great form players heading into action again this week, Thomas Bjorn, Joost Luiten and Mikko Ilonen, all of which would make solid Top Ten bets.

Going to pull out a home talent for this week’s longer shot. Raphael Jacquelin carded a 3rd place finish at last year’s editions and he is well up the rankings for driving accuracy. Not only that, his scrambling game has been good this term and his putter is going well at the moment. Scoring very well of par 4’s since March and although he is down at 115th in the world, he is pretty precise and few mistakes could see him have a good weekend.
