M2M Russian Open Preview 2013

It is naturally a little bit quiet on the golf betting front this week, following up all the drama of a tough four days at Muirfield for the Open. The Russian Open is the feature event on the European PGA this week, hosted at the Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club. There should be some great value around this week, because even the leaders in the outright winner market aren’t exactly in winning form. So let’s take a look at the options this week.

England’s Simon Dyson is heading up the field as favourite, and he is just trending perhaps towards something. In his last two starts he has secured top fifteen finishes, in what has been a pretty quiet season for him. His greens in regulation stats are getting better all the time, it has to be said, and some steady golf has seen his stroke average come day too. Every one of the main contenders seems to be in the same boat as Dyson.

You can look at Robert Rock, Soren Kjeldsen and France’s Romain Wattel who have all had a quiet season, but is just improving consistency at the moment. There are at least signs of improvement. Out of the bunch of main contenders, England’s Tommy Fleetwood may be worth a shot this week. He has a bit of course history, taking a second place here in 2010 when it was a Challenger event. You can’t argue with the way he is scoring at the moment, and he is trucking along very nicely on all types of holes, his par four scoring is superb at the moment and should be in contention.

Running up as an outside shot this week will be Denmark’s JB Hansen. The youngster took a third place finish at the Scottish Open, so he is in good form, plus he has course history with a 4th at the Challenger event here last year. His stats point to something big happening, he’s sticking it on the green and is red hot with the putter at the moment.
