The 56th FedEx St. Jude Classic (formerly the Memphis Open) is the last event on the PGA Tour before the US Open and several players will be hoping to fine-tune their game in preparation for the upcoming major. However, It may be worth remembering that no winner of the last event on the tour before the US Open has gone on to win the major.

The tournament has attracted five of the PGA Tour’s current Top 10 money winners and four of the Top 8 players in the FedExCup standings. Phil Mickelson has been a bit erratic this season and missed the cut at the Players Championship on his last start.

Brandt Snedeker and defending champion Dustin Johnson will have their supporters. Ian Poulter and Padraig Harrington are among the overseas contingent.

St. Jude Classic Stats: The field includes the winners of 11 Tour events in 2013 and 26 since the start of the 2012 season. John Daly will be taking part for the 16th consecutive year and the 23rd time in his career. Chinese 14-year-old Guan Tianlang will be making his fifth U.S. Tour start. When Dustin Johnson was victorious last year he became the first player since Tiger Woods to win in each of his first five seasons on the circuit since leaving college.
