FedEx St Jude Classic 2013 Preview

Matt Kuchar rewarded followers of this column at 28-1 in the Memorial last week and the PGA Tour now moves on to the St Jude Classic before the US Open.

Dustin Johnson won this event last year, shooting a final round 66 to beat John Merrick by a single stroke. His hopes of defending his title may be hindered by a recent back injury. He was forced to withdraw from the Players after one round and missed the cut at the Memorial last week.

Merrick already has a tour victory under his belt this season and did not perform badly at the Crowne Plaza International recently. Merrick has broken 70 in seven of his last eight rounds at TPC Southwind. He will fancy his chances of a bold showing after narrowly missing out last year and looks a good bet at 70-1 with Bet365.

Ryan Palmer finished tied for third last year and has been flattering to deceive on tour in recent events. If he can put together four solid rounds he must also have a chance and should give us a run for our money at 28-1 with Bet Victor.

It’s usually a good idea to stick with a player in form and Scott Stallings fits the bill after finishing tied for fourth in his last two events. This ended a miserable run of missed cuts and suggests that he is currently enjoying a rich vein of form. He will be hoping to cash in and is worth supporting at 35-1 with Bet Victor.

Sweden’s Robert Karlsson was beaten in a playoff here in 2011 by Harrison Frazar and could prove the best of the overseas players this week. His recent form has not been too inspiring but he did finish in a tie for fourth place at the start of May. If he can recapture last year’s form at this event he could reward each-way support at 40-1 with Ladbrokes.

Ryan Palmer 28-1 BetVictor
Scott Stallings 35-1 BetVictor
