BMW International Open Preview 2013
After taking a detour last year, the BMW International is back in Munich for its 25th anniversary. Sergio Garcia is a good fit for an each way bet this week, for many punters. His best finish from five previous starts at the BMW International was a second place finish, the last time it was held in Munich, back in 2011. That should count for something. So too his seven top twenty finishes from eight starts this season as well. He is the leader on the European PGA for scoring on par 5’s as well (a stunning 4.50 average) and if he keeps that going he should be right up there in the mix combined with his straight driving. That’s an obvious choice, but there is plenty of value digging deeper.
Great looking field which offers a lot of value around this week for top ten betting at the Golfclub Munchen Eichenried. Germany’s own Martin Kaymer and Sweden’s Henrik Stenson have been showing well in the markets and both are previous winners. Both though just have question marks about their fit for the course, other than good par 5 scoring. Neither should warrant more than a top ten finish shot this week.
One of the top options this week should be the Big Easy, Ernie Els. He is carrying some form and confidence into the BMW International Open after a fourth place finish at the US Open. Granted, his driving hasn’t been all that accurate this season, but he is running pretty hot with the putter at the moment, and combined with his solid par 5 scoring this season has to be one of the stronger contenders in the outright winner market along with Denmark’s Thomas Bjorn who has three top tens in his last four starts, and is supreme with the putter at the moment. Great value in both of them.
Looking for an outside shot this week, England’s David Horsey, a previous winner of the tournament makes tremendous 2/1 value for a Top Twenty finish. He has missed his last two cuts, however, before that blip in form he carded three top six finishes in a row. Nothing wrong with his scoring, ranks 9th in Stroke Average and shout be up there as the dark horse.
Stat: Sergio Garcia is the leading scorer on par 5’s this season
