The European PGA heads to South Korea and the Blackstone Golf Club in Icheon this week. Unfortunately the event has lost a couple of big names from the field with Dustin Johnson and Zach Johnson pulling out because of unrest on the Korean peninsula. That may have put a bit of a dampener on the field, and some of the big names like former winner Lee Westwood, Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter and recent Masters winner Adam Scott have all taken a pass this year too after previous appearances. So what are we left with in terms of picks for value this week?

South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen, currently placed eighth in the Race to Dubai goes as favourite this week in the South Korean event. Trading at around odds of 10/1, this season’s Volvo Golf Champions winner may fit the bill for many. But it really isn’t enough value, not in his first crack at the event. He can produce the quality to sound out a solid top ten finish open, but for the outright winner, there is a player in the field with a solid track record at the event.

That will be Sweden’s Alex Noren who has posted back to back top ten finishes at the Ballantines. He was in stunning form here last season, recovering brilliantly from a horrible opening round of 75 to post three sub-seventy rounds. The Swede’s last appearance this season was T6 at the Maybank Malaysian Open, his second top ten finish in six European PGA starts this term. Solid and consistent and at odds of 3/1 with Ladbrokes in the Ballantine’s Place Market, that is worth snapping up. If you like further coverage then Noren to land a top ten finish is still a little positive value worth covering at 6/5.
